Creating Intent for the New Year

Happy new year friends and colleagues, hope you had wonderful holiday. I wanted to share a bit of my season with you. I usually just post about work on my blog, but my time traveling is every bit an integral part of staying inspired with what I do as a stylist as the actual shoots themselves. So as the year was coming to a close and the winter weather was upon us, I decided to escape to a nearby island. Having come from an island nation, I almost always head to one whenever I need to regroup and reset, so I went to Cuba!
What an incredible place and how resilient and beautiful the Cubans are. Frankly, I steer clear of all politics and this isn't the platform for that. What I found was La Habana and Cubans to be super friendly and have such an innate sense of deep pride in their history and culture. Things are not perfect there by any means, but I am not the first nor will be the last, to appreciate the beautiful decay in Havana. There is something about the way the sun plays with the colors there that I found so engaging and beautiful. The mix of Spanish colonial architecture and the Afro-Cubano flavor made for so much eye candy to a stylist looking for inspiration.
Those of you who know me, know that I have a huge soft spot for indigenous people and the struggle to keep a connection to their culture and stories in an ever increasing world where you can go anywhere in the world and find a McDonalds/H&M/insert any global chain here. There was none of that on the island which takes your eyes a bit to get used to at first and then you realize, wow, this place is like nowhere I have been to before! This is AMAZING!
I feel blessed that I have the support system behind me to be able to do what I love. Thanks to all of you and I look forward to seeing you this year to create and add beauty to this place we call home.
